Colour palettes in Adobe InDesign 1.x-CS

Adobe InDesign is a program for professional publishing. It offers creative freedom, productivity and precision in the designing of layout- and print products. It works flawlessly with the other Adobe programs, e.g. Adobe Photoshop, Adobe PageMaker, Adobe Illustrator..

The colour systems can be integrated by using a so called „Colour field library“. The colours can be applied to the design by Drag&Drop (dragging with the mouse). In one moment you are provided with correct colour quality!

Destination Directory

The adherence to this destination path is not necessary for the availability of the palettes in the program.
In this program variant the CMYK palettes (artprint, offset printing uncoated and coated paper) were defined in RGB. To achieve this the black component was substituted by respective negative RGB values (standard formula).


Application in Adobe InDesign (up to 1.5)

  1. Open a new or an existing INDESIGN file.
  2. Choose the menu command "Window/Swatch Libraries/Other Libraries...".
  3. Choose the desired your colour palette from "Adobe\InDesign 1.5\Swatch Libraries“.
  4. Now you can drag the colours from the Colour field library onto the existing object (you have to press the left mouse key continually).
  5. By using a double click on the colour you can copy it into the „Colour fields“ window and then a simple mouseclick will colorize the marked object.
  6. Create your designs with your colour system!


Application in Adobe InDesign CS

  1. Open the window „Colour swatches“.
  2. Click on the little arrow in the top left corner of the window.
  3. Choose „New colour field“.
  4. Select „Colour mode“ in the window „New colour field“ and then the entry „Other library“.
  5. Open in the following window the installed palette (ai file).
  6. Mark the wanted colours in the list and click on „Add“.
  7. The colours will now be copied into the window „Colour fields“.
  8. Design with your colour system!
